"I know we (MakeMusic) have been awfully quiet lately. We've been working on a number of things (such as the transition to Boulder; more on that a little later today), but we've also been working on a new maintenance update for Finale.
Today, we're releasing Finale 2014d - an update intended to address a few specific issues reported from our users. Here's an outline of what you can expect:
Optional large-size tool palettes: A larger size for improved visibility can be chosen in the Preferences - Palettes and Backgrounds dialogue box.
New selected tool color: The highlighted tool on any tool palette is now a light blue rather than dark gray. This is in response to feedback from customers regarding difficulty seeing which tool was selected.
Disable snapping for beat-attached Smart Shape: A new menu option (Smart Shape > Snap When Attaching to Beats) returns to the Finale 2012-style method of placing Smart Shapes. Smart Shapes still attach to beats, but now only the attachment lines snap. The start and stop points appear where you click.
Help Improve Finale. After installing this update, a new dialog appears on the first launch asking whether or not you want to submit anonymous usage data to MakeMusic. (More info below)
Contents of the previous measure no longer overwrite existing music when selecting the "Move the extra notes to the next measure" option in Speedy Entry.
File opening and saving speed has been further improved.
Quick Look support is now enabled for documents created in Finale 2014.
Spotlight support is now enabled for documents created in Finale 2014.
The Movie Window can now open all file types that were available in Finale 2012.
The misalignment of stem connections for upstem quarter notes in certain circumstances has been corrected.
A word about the "Help Improve Finale" feature: When you launch 2014d, you'll be asked to share anonymous Finale usage data with MakeMusic (tools used, time spent in each tool, overall time spent in Finale, that sort of thing). This data will be used to better inform the design of future versions of Finale.
This is an opt-in feature (you get to choose to participate or not). No personally-identifiable or document-specific information will ever be collected, and you can change your mind about sharing at any time by choosing Help > Help Improve Finale.
You can download your update to Finale 2014d by opening Finale 2014 and clicking Help > Check for Updates. I've been a long-time lurker on these forums so I'm excited to be here and answer your questions. Ask away!"
