Level I – Beginning Finale Notation
This introductory course focuses on how to navigate and use the basic Finale features. You will become familiar with the software interface, Launch Window, sound libraries, Windows vs. Mac commands, playback controls, viewing modes, tools, menus, score setup, Simple Entry note methods, adding markings and articulations, as well as Page Layout and printing. The tutorials in this course correspond to chapters 1-5 of Mavis Kallestad’s Building Successful Finale ‘Chops’ book for Finale.
Level II – Creating an Instrumental Score
In this course you will apply the knowledge acquired in the Beginning Finale Notation course specifically to recreate an instrumental score. You will learn how to set up the score, enter notes and rests using a MIDI keyboard, copy music, use Metatools to enter dynamic markings and articulations such as accents, staccatos, fermatas, slurs, and rehearsal letters. You will also learn how to fit measures, and lay out your page correctly, and view and print parts, which are linked in Finale. The tutorials in this course correspond with chapter 6 of Mavis Kallestad’s Building Successful Finale ‘Chops’ book for Finale.
Level III – Creating a Choral Score
In this course you will apply the knowledge acquired in the Beginning Finale Notation course specifically to recreate a choral score. You will learn to set up a choral score, enter notes in the first staff, copy them to the other voice parts and use the Repitch Tool to “repitch” the notes. Type in lyrics and copy them to the other voice parts. Additionally, you will add dynamics, rehearsal letters and learn how to create a piano reduction used for rehearsal. The tutorials in this course correspond with chapter 8 of Mavis Kallestad’s Building Successful Finale ‘Chops’ book for Finale.
