Perfect Layout v2.58 has been released. This has been a very productive month with 65 new features, improvements and fixes since the last September newsletter. It is again a free update for all users who bought the full version of Perfect Layout in the last 19 months.

We are also making progress on v3.0. The beta testers will have access soon.
Some information on v3.0 is already available.
New features include automatic parts layout, correct vertical placement of chords and horizontal alignment of arpeggios.

The Windows version will also get a completely new installer which facilitates the installation, activation and deactivation of the plug-in and which resembles the macOS version.

Fixed:
-In very rare cases Finale could show an error message when calculating the volume of a dynamics. Fixed now.

Improved:
-A few minor processing speed improvements all over the plug-in

Fixed:
-In rare cases an error message could occur on stem collisions in measures that also have hidden notes. Fixed now.
-In rare cases when an expression used a non-installed font and Finale changed its font value to "Missing Font" instead of the real font name, Perfect Layout had problems in deciphering the expression text. Fixed now.
-In rare cases Finale could hang when a certain combination of grace notes, freeze stems and hidden notes was in one measure. Fixed now.
-If a score had multiple piano instruments and a hairpins between the two piano instruments (below the bottom staff of the top piano and above the top staff of the bottom piano), in some cases these hairpins were centered between the two instruments instead of aligned with the top instruments. Fixed now.
-On the Chords tab a text was visible that had no function yet. The text has been removed.

Improved:
-Processing speed boost (especially on macOS) for the lyrics alignment if the file includes lots of syllables.
-Faster calculation of expression and text metrics that are repeatedly used in the score
-Many minor processing speed improvements all over the plug-in
-More music font names added.
-macOS installer now asks to close Finale 27 before installation.
-Improved enigma tags optimization in the case of ^font(...)^size(...)^font(...)^size(...).
-Horizontal lyrics metrics for vertical staff spacing are now calculated more precisely.
-Improved placement of enclosed measure numbers at system start.
-Horizontal collisions of expressions with lyrics are now partially taken into account.
-Improved vertical staff/system spacing on parts with only one page and lots of free space.
-Improved Spanish, French, Italian, German and Polish translation
-Improved support for negative baseline, tracking and superscript values in texts
-Moved "Clear Manual Vertical Lyrics Positioning" to the Alignment tab in the lyrics section. When everything the "Deactivate All" preset is loaded, it's now possible to activate vertical lyrics alignment with one click only.
-In some cases improved measure number metrics at the start of the system (with enclosures and measure number regions that don't start at measure 1).
-Articulation with tie/slur collision removal now also works with tremolo articulations on whole notes

La version 3 de Perfect Layout est en Beta et fait l'objet de tests.

Perfect Layout v3 is on its way with already more than 160 new features and improvements including automatic parts layout, baseline adjustment for chords, horizontal alignment of arpeggios and much more.
Good news also for Finale's plug-in development with Lua:
RGP Lua, the successor of JW Lua, has been released, developed by plug-in developer Robert G. Patterson.
It already brings many new features, fixes old JW Lua bugs and finally makes it possible to think about reviving some of our old plug-in projects like the Real Book Look plug-in which we had never released because of too many restrictions in JW Lua.
Perfect Layout v3 will support both JW Lua and RGP Lua and also run on macOS in Finale 27.2 with native code for the Apple M1 chip.

Pour les utilisateurs Mac :
Jan Angermüller communique sur la compatibilité de son utilitaire "Perfect Layout" (v. 2.61) avec le dernier MacOs Ventura.
Il explique qu'il faut désactiver Perfect Layaout AVANT de faire la mise à jour vers Ventura (sous General). Ensuite, le réactiver.

Si Ventura déjà été installé, il donne des instructions pour procéder à la réactivation de la licence ICI.

Il n'est pas très rassurant quand il écrit "J'ignore si et quelle version de Finale fonctionne actuellement de manière stable avec MacOS Ventura"...

"macOS: Perfect Layout and OS Ventura Compatibility

OS Ventura has been released in the last weeks.
For the first time an OS update caused problems with Perfect Layout.

Please note:
You currently have to deactivate Perfect Layout before updating to OS Ventura. After the OS update you can reactivate it.
To deactivate the plug-in click on "Deactivate" on the plug-in's General tab.

If you have already updated to OS Ventura, please follow the instructions (ICI) on how to reactivate your license in OS Ventura.

Note: This is no recommendation to update to OS Ventura yet.
It's only a Perfect Layout hint. I don't know if and which version of Finale currently works stable in OS Ventura.
